Ukrainian authorities have declared the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative locally engineered interceptor drone to strengthen its aerial protection systems. The first three producers have begun manufacturing, with 11 more preparing to set up assembly lines, the defence ministry announced this past Friday.

'Octopus' Technology Proven in Battlefield Situations

These UAVs utilize a domestically developed system called “Octopus” designed to intercept Shahed drones. This technology has been tested in combat and proved successful “at night, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” the ministry confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set a target of producing as many as 1,000 interceptors daily.

Recent Assault on the Capital Described as Calculated

Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “deliberate, calculated and brutal” after six people lost their lives and many others injured in a wave of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Alert systems sounded in the capital just after midnight on Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly detected overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

Zelenskyy stated the country was targeted by hundreds of UAVs and 18 missiles. Those killed were at home in an apartment building on Kyiv’s left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures sustained damage, among them the Azerbaijani embassy.

International Objection Following Embassy Destruction

The Azerbaijani government said it issued a strong protest to Moscow's diplomatic representative this past Friday after the destruction at its diplomatic compound. The blast from a Russian Iskander missile destroyed part of the embassy’s perimeter wall and resulted in significant destruction to the diplomatic compound, officials from Baku reported. No one injured, and a ministry spokesperson confirmed the diplomatic mission in Ukraine was maintaining operations.

Russian Aerial Bomb Production Sees Major Expansion

Moscow intends to produce up to 120,000 guided aerial bombs this year, a high-ranking Ukrainian defense official disclosed, including 500 of an innovative, longer-range version that is capable of targeting more towns and cities. Russian forces were firing hundreds of glide bombs daily, with last month’s average daily usage being approximately 170, according to official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Target Russian Energy Infrastructure

Russia’s Black Sea port of the port city halted for a period crude shipments this past Friday – equivalent to two percent of global supply – after a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. Ukraine’s general staff stated its forces had fired Neptune cruise missiles and deployed various types of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of efforts to diminish the strategic capabilities of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukrainian forces separately struck an oil refinery in the Saratov area and an energy depot in the adjacent Engels region overnight.

International Restrictions Affect Moscow's Oil Producer

Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil announced this past Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers concerning its international holdings after recent sanctions from Western nations and failure of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “Final arrangements are to be disclosed once the final agreements are completed and required authorizations are secured,” the company commented.

Zelenskyy Schedules Diplomatic Trip to Spain

Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the city of Madrid, Madrid, next Tuesday to meet with parliament members following his visit to Paris, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. Zelenskyy would meet representatives from both chambers of the legislature throughout his stay, the Spanish statement confirmed.
