Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
