Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
